DENVER - Governor Polis released the following statement welcoming the long-awaited release of the hostages who have been held captive since Hamas’s October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, and an end to the violence in Gaza, moving the region closer to peace after more than two years of horrific violence and suffering.

DENVER - Today, Governor Polis issued a verbal disaster declaration to support response and recovery efforts following significant flooding in Western Colorado. The Governor has been monitoring the situation closely and State public safety leaders have been in close contact with local emergency management about this unprecedented weather event. State resources, including the Colorado Department of Public Safety’s Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM), Colorado State Patrol, and the Division of Fire Prevention and Control, as well as the Colorado Department of Transportation and Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment were previously engaged in the emergency response before the verbal disaster declaration.

DENVER - Nominations are now open for the next Poet Laureate of Colorado. The Poet Laureate serves a two-year term as Colorado’s ambassador for poetry, and engages with communities across the state, including conducting readings and workshops.

Statewide — The Polis Administration announced Thursday that Colorado has received federal approval for the final $12 million of its $56.5 million in funding from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program. To date, Colorado has already awarded nearly $25.6 million in NEVI funding to support 246 fast-charging ports along major transportation routes across the state. Securing the last of this federal funding will help Colorado continue to build out a robust network of fast-chargers as EV registrations in the state surpass 200,000.
