DENVER — This afternoon, Lt. Governor Dianne Primavera joined members of Colorado’s Italian-American community, civic leaders, and the Denver Chapter of Filitalia International to celebrate the second annual Italian Flag Raising at the Colorado State Capitol.
The ceremony honored Italy’s rich history and culture, while also recognizing the lasting contributions of Italian Americans to Colorado.
“As someone with Italian heritage, this celebration is very meaningful to me,” said Lt. Governor Primavera. “My roots go back to North Denver, surrounded by Italian families, neighborhood restaurants, and the warmth of my grandparents’ home. Those roots instilled in me a lifelong pride in our culture, and it is an honor to carry that heritage with me as Colorado’s first Italian-American Lieutenant Governor.”
Event organizers emphasized the importance of continuing this new tradition at the Capitol.
“We are incredibly proud to see the Italian flag raised at our state capital for the second year in a row,” said Simone Billeci, Membership Chair, Filitalia International Denver Chapter. “It’s a powerful symbol of the enduring contributions Italian Americans have made to our community and our country. This event is not just about heritage; it's about honoring our ancestors, sharing our rich culture, and inspiring future generations to celebrate their roots with pride.”
The program included musical performances, proclamations, and community speakers, culminating in the raising of the Italian flag over the State Capitol.
Under Lt. Governor Primavera’s leadership, Colorado continues to celebrate and uplift the diverse cultures and communities that make the state strong, inclusive, and vibrant.
