Colorado Takes Action to Address Budget Hole Created by Trump and Colorado Congressional Republicans, Governor Polis Thanks Legislature for Hard Work During Legislative Session

Tuesday, August 26, 2025

DENVER - Today, the Colorado General Assembly adjourned its 2025 Special Legislative Session, which Governor Polis called for in order to fix the billion-dollar budget created by President Trump and H.R. 1, which was backed by Congressman Evans, Congressman Hurd, Congresswoman Boebert and Congressman Crank and opposed by Senator Bennet, Senator Hickenlooper, Congresswoman DeGette, Congressman Neguse, Congressman Crow and Congresswoman Pettersen.

“Colorado legislators stepped up and helped protect children's food access and minimized the devastating cost increases to health insurance premiums across the state, to the best of our ability. H.R. 1 increased the deficit of the United States by trillions of dollars and blew a major hole in Colorado’s budget that threatened our schools, roads, health care, and more. During this special session, Colorado lawmakers did what the federal government refuses to do: closed special interest corporate tax loopholes and balanced our state budget while protecting funding for schools, roads, and health care. I thank the General Assembly for their efforts during this legislative session and their commitment to delivering real results for Coloradans,” said Governor Polis.

Earlier today, Governor Polis signed two bills to support kids and families’ access to healthy food and ensure Coloradans continue to have access to wellness visits, preventative care, and cancer screenings, which Trump and Congressional Republicans slashed with H.R.1.
